Compline (Twelfth Hour): Agpeya prayer in English & Arabic

Compline (Twelfth Hour) of the Coptic Agpeya: before sleep: the burial of Christ and the remembrance of our end.

It is the prayer before sleep. Many families pray it together at night, asking for protection through the dark hours.

The psalms of this hour are Psalms 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 136, 137, 140, 141, 145, 146, 147.

The Gospel reading for this hour is Luke 2:25-32.

To pray it, begin with the opening prayers, read the psalms slowly, listen to the Gospel, and finish with the litanies and the Lord’s Prayer. If you are new to the Agpeya, ask your priest which hours to start with.

The full hour, with its psalms, the Gospel and the litanies, opens in the interactive reader in English, Arabic or both side by side. It is free in Doxali.
