Prime (First Hour): Agpeya prayer in English & Arabic

Prime (First Hour) of the Coptic Agpeya: dawn: the Resurrection of Christ and the coming of the True Light into the world.

Many people pray it first thing in the morning, before the day begins, as a way of giving the whole day to God.

The psalms of this hour are Psalms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 18, 24, 26, 62, 66, 69, 112, 142.

The Gospel reading for this hour is John 1:1-17.

To pray it, begin with the opening prayers, read the psalms slowly, listen to the Gospel, and finish with the litanies and the Lord’s Prayer. If you are new to the Agpeya, ask your priest which hours to start with.

The full hour, with its psalms, the Gospel and the litanies, opens in the interactive reader in English, Arabic or both side by side. It is free in Doxali.
