Vespers (Eleventh Hour): Agpeya prayer in English & Arabic
Vespers (Eleventh Hour) of the Coptic Agpeya: sunset: the taking down of the Lord’s body from the Cross.
It is the evening prayer, said as the day closes, with thanksgiving for the day that has passed.
The psalms of this hour are Psalms 116, 117, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128.
The Gospel reading for this hour is Luke 4:38-41.
To pray it, begin with the opening prayers, read the psalms slowly, listen to the Gospel, and finish with the litanies and the Lord’s Prayer. If you are new to the Agpeya, ask your priest which hours to start with.
The full hour, with its psalms, the Gospel and the litanies, opens in the interactive reader in English, Arabic or both side by side. It is free in Doxali.
